Alwar is a city in northeastern Rajasthan, on the eastern edge of the Alwar Hills, which is part of the Aravalli Range, and the city lies midway between Delhi and Jaipur. Alwar is a walled city with a moat around it and has an impressive fort atop a hill, with the Alwar Hills as its backdrop. The Alwar Fort is called Bala Qilla and is one of the most spectacular forts in Rajasthan; it is supposedly never invaded or conquered by any king.ย
The Neelkanth Temple is very old and dedicated to Lord Shiva, dating back to between the 6th and the 9th century.
A major tourist attraction in Alwar is the Bhangarh Haunted Fort, and tourists are prohibited from stepping inside the fort area after sunset and before sunrise. It is said to be the most haunted place in India!
City Palace (Vinay Vilas Mahal) in the heart of the city is truly stunning and was constructed in 1793. It combines Rajput and Mughal design beautifully.
